I'm Seeing Pink (It's Breast Cancer Awareness Month!)

Hello October!

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and, as such, we will surely be seeing a lot of pink. I love the way that these days the sight of pink is an instantaneous reminder of breast cancer and goodwill towards women. I'm not talking about a girl's pink sneakers or balloons at a baby shower -- I'm talking the non-traditional use of pink as in your pink blender or water filter or vacuum! It makes me feel a special sense of pride and solidarity as a woman, especially when I see those of the other gender supporting the pink cause as well.

Though pink has always been associated with the female gender in general, it has historically shared strong ties to the traditional views of femininity. Since the adoption of the pink ribbon in 1991 -- the first time the ribbons were handed out to breast cancer survivors participating in NYC's Susan G. Komen breast cancer walk, there is new strength in pink representing the fear of breast cancer, hope for the future, and the goodness of humanity and all those supporting the breast cancer movement.

Although there are many pink products on the market today, here are a few of our favorites displays of support for the cause:

And... if you're in NYC, check out The Peninsula's "Peninsula in Pink" program. If you're in Las Vegas, don't miss the Miracle Mile Shops' pink fountain.
