Living Colorfully in 2012
It’s a new year, and for many that means new year’s resolutions. I’ve made it my resolution to take more time to indulge in my passions and appreciate the art found in everyday life. It's fortuitous that one of the Christmas presents I received this year just may help me do that.
I recognize there are probably already a few posts on this blog about color, but the book Pantone: The 20th Century in Color is pretty remarkable. It documents the evolution of touchstone works of art, visual expressions of cultural movements, products, décor, fashion, and advertising in the 20th century, providing a color palette to epitomize each decade. In so doing, the book uses color to paint a vivid picture of our world as it has evolved over the past 100 years.
In essence, the book’s message is this: to understand color is to understand the world around us and appreciate its beauty. That is exactly what I plan to do. To borrow a catch phrase from Kate Spade, here’s to “Living Colorfully” in 2012.
