Move Over Cupcakes, Pie Pops Are All The Rage!

pie popsWith the abundance of decadent, premiumly priced cupcake shops popping up on every corner, it's refreshing to see the revitalization of a simple classic -- pies!

These perfectly-portioned, tiny pies are genius. Not only are they (potentially) more calorie conscious, but with a few simple ingredients, they are easy and inexpensive to make if you're up for the challenge. Virgin America: Holistic Multi-Sensory Design At 35,000 Feet

We all know how cumbersome and exhausting air travel can be these days. From the long lines and incessant delays to the irritable gate attendants and headache-inducing neon lights. Fun, fun. In reading the description, however, it’s no wonder that Thonet’s bentwood design is still thriving today; the chair is characterized as dependable, simple, graceful, and strong.

This got me thinking about design that stands the test of time. In...

The Sensitive & Creative Man

I didn’t realize until more recently in my life that it is okay to be a man and be sensitive. I spent most of my childhood wondering why certain things made me upset and emotional. How come my brothers or buddies didn’t seem to be rattled or moved in the same way I was? I’ve been told that it has a lot to do with being a creative thinker.

I wasn’t totally convinced that this was true or socially acceptable until I met my father-in-law. A man who I admire not only for his intelligence and...

Type Creation: Melissa Girl Scout Font

My interest in type creation began in college when we were required to hand letter the Trajan letterforms using rulers and compasses and charcoal. I loved the precision and the math involved to create the perfect letterform.

My latest type creation, created for a logo for the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana, is nothing like the Trajan letterforms and the process was far from math and precision...
