Brutalism, a modernist architectural movement popular from the 1950s to mid-1970s, takes a 21st century twist in the SOS Children's Villages Lavezzorio Community Center. Brutalism is known for the exposure of raw concrete or, as James Goggin describes it, the "honesty of materials." James Goggin, recently appointed Design Director at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, discussed his love of Brutalism and other sources of inspiration at a recent Design Thinking lecture, sponsored by AIGA Chicago.
