Executing research before the design process begins helps us gain valuable insight from consumers, and informs the design process. Without this understanding, the design will not improve the problem or experience for the consumer. Qualitative testing of a brand's visual and verbal equities, positioning and competitive set also can prevent a brand’s equities from being mishandled and uncover valuable opportunities.
Design research can lend focus to the design selection process and ensure that the redesign reflects the brief's stated objectives and success criteria. We also use in-process design research to inform communication hierarchy and hypothesize on the potential business performance of alternative designs.
