Sweet Home Chicago Gala Invitation

Background

Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) asked Soulsight to design an invitation for their 5th Annual “Big Mac Under Glass” dinner gala held in Chicago. Ronald McDonald Houses provides a “home away from home” for families of pediatric patients being cared for in area hospitals while also reaching out to children in need with mobile medical care and educational opportunities. Since they are non-profit, RMHC relies on the generosity of charitable donations as its main source of funding. Traditionally, the lion’s share of these donations come at their annual gala.

Solution

The city of Chicago has a beat of its own, so Soulsight's theme for this year’s gala was "Sweet Home Chicago", an old blues standard that has become one of the most popular anthems of the city. Soulsight created a powerful design that pulled cues from the musical theme and captured the spirit of the city while reinforcing the positivity of their message of hope. The graphic execution was inspired by old blues posters and advertisements – specifically the use of rough, bold type, bright colors and monochromatic photography. The design supported the more serious tone of the cause, but reinforced the optimism that is at the core of the Ronald McDonald House ethos.

Results

The turnout for the Ronald McDonald House Charities gala was considered to be its best ever. The engaging, bold invitation was credited as a major part of that success. Without any additional marketing or advertising support, the RMHC invitation attracted over 900 guests and raised over $520,000 in one evening. It remains close to our hearts as one of Soulsight's most cherished accomplishments.
